I collaborated with artist Shana Moulton to adapt her celebrated video serial into a one-act opera, featuring my original music and libretto, and scored for two vocalists, harp, electric piano, and electronics.  The story tracks Cynthia, Moulton's alter-ego, and her attempt to become an environmental activist.  Objects in Cynthia's home are the opera's other characters—they become the subjects of musical arias, and transport her into alternate realities.  The opera premiered at The Kitchen and subsequently was performed at the New Museum of Contemporary Art, Portland Institute of Contemporary Art TBA festival (where it earned Best of Visual Art 2011 in the Oregonian), Carolina Performing Arts, SFMOMA, the Warhol Museum, and Cricoteka (Kraków).  In 2013, Shana and I were awarded a Creative Capital grant to adapt this work for the internet.

Nick Hallett and Shana Moulton (2013 Emerging Fields) present their project "Whispering Pines ∞" at the 2013 Creative Capital Artist Retreat.
